  1. I just set it to share, although it doesn't show up on the list just yet: http://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/PublicWishLists.aspx - Look for "Fatherpeteus" Oct 29 Annoyingly, my video card just sold out!
  2. Well, I've been working my ass off for three months and have managed to save a little dough - Now I plan to blow some on a new gaming PC to make me feel better about the whole working thing! Here's what I'm looking at: https://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/MySavedWi...spx?ID=15771568 (Hoping that will work, because I don't see how to make a "public wish list"!) Summary: $59 - COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel, SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Case $115 - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply (half price!) $339 - ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard $140 - CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1333C9 $310 - Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920 $53 - COOLER MASTER Intel Core i7 compatible Hyper N 520 RR-920-N520-GP 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler $500 - XFX GX295NHWFC GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 (448 x 2)-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card $79 - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $32 - Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black SATA Model AD-7240S-0B $123 - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders ---- Comments? Am I overspending on the CPU and video card? That's the only thing I'm really wavering on... I'm not a bleeding edge kind of gamer - I just want a rig that will do away with this rediculous 2 fps in WoW raids bs forever, be able to run SC2, Supreme Commander (the first game that really bogged down my GeForce 6600 / AMD Athlon 2500+ / 1 Mb RAM system) and anything else I'm apt to be playing for the next couple of years at least, and never bog down. So maybe it would make more sense for me to cut about half the cost out of this system and get like a GeForce 8800 GT / AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3 GHz box, and be prepared to upgrade to these components when they've come way down in price. But there's something to be said for, you know, not needing to upgrade! Am I forgetting anything silly that I'm going to need? (Besides the $2.50 SATA cable for the HDD) It's been a while since I built a PC from scratch - I'm kindof looking forward to it! Prices are in $Can (but our dollars are within 10% of par these days), from Newegg.ca. I doubt newegg.com would ship to Canada, since they have the local site, and this saves some border hassle and gains some free shipping. Total cost including Windows 7 is about Can$1600... Right around $2000 after a little shipping and a lot of taxes - lol
  3. Count me in amongst the herd who will be queuing for a new PC just as soon as they come loaded with Win 7. The new OS widgets are secondary to obtaining a WoW box capable of >2fps in 25-man raiding... I just don't want anything to do with Vista, ever! (Especially now that it's obsolete).
  4. That... And the smoker voting bloc! In 20 years there will be a lot less smokers around though, I'd guess...
  5. I feel for you Aigle! You are on the right track with networking - Finding a new professional job right now is unfortunately incredibly hard. So many people with great credentials like you and me are in the job market, employers can take their pick... And they are most likely to pick someone they know, like an internal candidate. But a reference from someone they trust is the next best thing, so talk to everyone you know who works for the kind of company you are interested in. Three other things - Don't take a break before you seriously start looking, because it's probably going to take a while! Take advantage of a career consulting professional to fine-tune your resume and get ideas, especially if the service is offered as part of your severance. Don't wait for the perfect job, because you could be waiting forever. Look for jobs that are similar to what you were doing 10 years ago. Your experience isn't going to go away, and once they get to know you it should be possible to rise quickly in a large organization. Best of luck to both of us, since I'm in a similar situation (currently making tires at Goodyear just to have a job, for about 1/3 the salary I commanded a couple of years ago.)
  6. I'm sure if they lost that revenue, they would soon figure out something else to tax to make up the difference
  7. This is kindof true - Only because of relatively recent government regulations on smoking. So it's not helping your case for why government should leave smokers alone. Cars have important plusses. Cigarettes have none. That's a key difference.
  8. It's the mugger who makes the choice, not the victim. And governments pass laws to prohibit that bad behavior - It's their job. If it weren't for the second-hand smoke (especially for children of smokers), healthcare costs and lost productivity, smoking would only hurt the smoker and it would be a little different. It would still be appropriate for government to try to protect naive kids from being lured into an addiction though, imo.
  9. Too be fair, pushing an old granny down a flight of stairs and making off with her purse is a conscious decision too, and most of us are OK with laws against that. Cigarettes should be illegal. Anything who's only positive is that once you get hooked on it you start needing it to function... I'm cool with getting rid of. It'll never happen in the near term though - There are still too many smoker/voters!
  10. Starcraft 2 will be jawsome! If it ever arrives - Sigh...
  11. Thanks Powerstripe! Yeah, a good buddy of mine is a manager for Rogers here in Kingston (I'm not telling him that I'm in the marget until I know what I'm buying - lol) So, subscription-type question: If I buy an iPhone now, it seems like they demand a 3-yr contract... So when the iPhone 4G comes out next year and I want to upgrade, would I end up having to pay the full $500 or whatever for the phone? I assume the same voice/data package would work with it, but I guess I wouldn't be getting a "with a new suscription" price (unless my buddy could work something out for me from the inside?) --- Shean - That's a really good call on the "test drive" idea!
  12. Oil resistant screen sounds like a good upgrade! Hmm - I need more friends (handy) with various smartphones I can try! I can only think of a couple, and they have blackberry's - no iPhones or Palm Pre's. I suppose I could go in to the store and try them out... --- I wonder, those who have smartphones and use them to surf, do you find a 500Mb/month cap restrictive? (Or what do you have/use up on your plan, if you know?) I burn through hundreds of times that on my desktop, but I certainly don't plan to download any movies or play WoW on the phone. It's hard to tell how much bandwidth browsing websites, forum chatting and IM use, compared to intensive stuff like downloading patches or movies. Well, until you see it on your bill I guess!
  13. Good stuff so far! Bang... I have tears running down my face right now
  14. So I figure this place is full of techno-geeks (God bless us!), and while I may be guilty as charged myself my knowledge of smartphones is sorely lacking. The main thing I know is that I want one! But which should I buy? iPhone? Link? Rumour? Xenon? Neon? Keybo? Palm Pre? Rival? Slyde? Storm? Tour? So many choices! Lots of different service providers too - Any big thumbs up (or horror stories) about Virgin Mobile, Fido, Telus, Rogers, Bell or Koodo? I suppose it matters what exactly I want the thing to do I'd use it mainly for surfing and probably playing some games... A few phone calls (almost all local), maybe a text or two (or maybe not). I'll be mainly checking emails, chatting on web forums like this, checking out my fantasy team's performance on the weekend, and so forth. I'll take the odd picture or little video of someone's curling slide, no big expectations. And I like affordable subscription rates! (And flexible contracts!) Also interested in GPS/street directions functionality, mostly for the coolness factor to be honest. How does that work anyway? Extra service for a monthly subscription? (Whether for phones or for a Garmin dashboard unit) Your thoughts are appreciated!
  15. Defense does give parry, dodge and block too... The uncrittable thing is just a side-effect, really!
  16. Nice job all ! zomg I'm finally back on the internet after a week with no connection (or phone)! Damn you Cogeco! But I'll be rushing home from ball tonight hoping there's some raiding to be had... And if not, perhaps some heroic farming See you 8:45ish tonight!
  17. I love that IE8 reopens all the browser windows I had up after I recover from a crash (for some reason WoW is crashing my PC on exit now, about 50% of the time. : /
  18. If the reaction wasn't fake, the cancellation was desperately needed. lol @ the remote control. And the face-slams on the bed - rofl
  19. Nobody else likes Star Wars: Force unleashed?
  20. Dance Dance Revolution! Oh, and after a year or so of searching for some kind of dueling game that would allow my bro and I to take advantage of the unique controllers, we found "Star Wars: Force Unleashed". It's pretty cool in single-player campaign mode, but in 1v1 arena mode it is just what we were looking for. Awesome game! Also, Wii Fit is pretty nifty.
  21. Compared to the 2fps I get on low settings with my poor decrepit old paperweight. I just had a h8 Aigle moment. There, over it and back to my usual glass-half-full self!
  22. Fatherpeteus

    Um ?

Killerpriest - They didn't ask you for your credit card number and PIN? lol
