Has anyone in blizzard explained why the map of Azeroth changed just about every warcraft game, mainly, this one. 8)

Well, when they were discussing the new Draenei island (off the coast of Darnassus I believe), they said "cartographers have not yet charted it's exact location"...

So I guess the globe didn't change, just the maps got more accurate! :-D

ill give them that, but if you check old maps of azeroth, compared to now, some cities have completely changed locations. I cant link examples atm, but i will soon.

Well, the whole sence of scale has been fuked with in WoW. Oh, and yes... places are completley moved/removed, etc.

Here's our fair kingdom of Azeroth in WC1:

Here it is in WoW:

Not much simmilarity, eh?

Now lets take the region north of that:

WC2:

compare to WoW's:

All I have to say is that like with lore, they play fast and loose with the maps... despite placing imporance on them.

Oh, and sorry for ruining the thread with overly huge pictures. tongue.gif

actually, the first two look pretty similar to me. If you look at map progression of the real world, the scale changes about as much. tongue.gif

Well, the WC2 map is the biggest difference. The WC1 and WoW don't look too differenct. It's like looking at a map of Middle Earth from the Hobbit and then looking at one from LOTR.

Or as Gynis said, like map progression in the real world, but who gives a damn about the real world.

I like the way they have the map set up in WoW, except that everything is too connected via land routes. I wish there were more islands that required boats, faries, or swimming to get to. I like how the WC2 map has a lot of them.

they did that with the WC2 map because of the naval vessels useable in the game. the maps go with the game type id say. WC1, land units and movement, WC2, land and sea travel, and back to mainly land movement in WoW again
