Hey all,

With me having to build a new CPU here pretty soon, I was hoping to find someone/someway to get a hold of a cheap copy of Windows 7 OEM version. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. I have about 2 weeks before I could need to get it in hands. Thanks again. S

Yea that is the prob I am not a student, was trying to find a buddy of mine that could buy one for me from his/her college. Do not want to pay too much for an OS, just so I can upgrade my PC. S

Alternately, you could get a Technet sub for something like $150-200 which would net you ~10 licenses for each version of Win7 (home, pro and ultimate...32 and 64 bit versions) as well as pretty much all of their software lineup from Office to Visual Studio.

Yes, the price I quoted (estimate) is a bit steep for an individual, but if you went in with 1 or more other people you'd all have Win7 licenses for the rest of your lives...I haven't installed a retail/OEM version of Windows in about 10 years thanks to my friend's Technet sub.

I believe what Fifi is talking about is the Microsoft Action Pack.

it's actually a $200 / year subscription but OMG its by far the cheapest way of getting ALL the MS software at a VERY reasonable price.

The good news is that you can un-subscribe after the first year, and the license keys you have stay golden.

The only prerequisite is that you can feign being a company. :/

Not sure about that. I always used a 'Technet' or MSDN (Microsoft Developer's Network) subscription, but companies love to change naming schemes.

Anyway, here's the link. A bit more than I remember it costing, but you can also normally find it cheaper from a reseller.

I'm not sure...My friend and I are both DBA's so it never occurred to me that this might be a necessity as we always 'put it on the company card' for writeoffs...

Finally...

Dunno...RL has been really busy but not terribly profitable lately so I'm facing the double whammy of having neither copious amounts of free time NOR free cash... <3

Thanks for the Tech Net link, Fifi.

FTR: The MS Action Pack is available here: https://partner.microsoft.com/40016455

Just in case you wanted to check it out. Not sure what the differences are yet but I'm sure if I can Google up a summary someone else has already written up. Will follow up with anything I find.

ooh ooh *raises hand* If you have a DBA (if that is even encessary) i will absolutely go in with Shean and whoever for the one year sub. price to get an OEM copy.

that is a steal. let me know! My XP is working just fine for me, but if i can get a hold of windows 7 for a reasonable price, I'm down. and I would actually maybe be looking for 3 for myself and two friends to all go in, which would lower the price even more.

let me knoW!! :-D
