Until then end of September, there is a 6GB dataplan for the same price of a 1GB dataplan. If you have a buddy in sales, you is to your advantage. Yeah, but it's a simple marketing tactic they use because the money they make back pays for the phone itself. After your on that 3 year contract, They act all nice to you so you become a loyal customer and stay with them so they can make money off you later for other phone services, tv or internet.
