With the way windows manages it's memory it's not going to be able to use more then 3BG effectively, only ever (I mean freaking rarely) dipping into that last gig. Should he choose to up to a 64bit OS later on however, he's not going to have to change his hardware. Or if he's ballsy he can run Redhat or something with a windows shell, or even dual boot a 32bit and 64bit OS. I don't think that Shorty's going to go that direction though. Stick use a 32bit OS for the moment, unless you like hunting for drivers and praying your devices will work. 64bit OSes aren't widely used enought that they're truely universally compatible yet. Given some time they'll be the golden standard, but that's going to take MS getting of it's fat corporate ass; and making an OS that doesn't take an army of SPs to make function the way it should. Oh and if you're still looking for a PSU I highly recomend a PC power and cooling unit. Your Vid Card is going to love that Single high power rail. I just purchased some of the last hardware that I'm going to need for my system, and with the paycheck I'll be getting on the 19th I'll be finishing (mostly) the build. Hey, someone has to buy them! Anyway, i think AMD is aware of the bad name ati has gotten over the years, with releasing sub par hardware, and at times faulty hardware. However, i believe they are trying to correct that, not only is the 4870 a very fast card, its far more efficient than nvidias current best (cheaper too). Its going to pay for itself in terms of electrical bills. I dont know the status of AMD's windows drivers, but im a linux user, and AMD has released the drivers as opensource, which is awesome. My last 3 cards have been nVidia and I have had nowhere near the problems with drivers that I've always had with every, single ATI product I've ever owned. They don't deserve my money. As for PSU, I also recommend PCP&C. I have the same PSU that Ect linked, just in the less gaudy black. And for the RAM debate. 32-bit Windows XP/Vista can only address a total of 4GB of RAM, but that includes video RAM (and possibly processor cache, but I'm not sure). Vista has a lot of good things going for it, like being self preserving (mostly). If you have any idea what you're doing with a computer you're more then likely going to find Vista to be more of a flashy annoyance then anything else. Sauce hit the nail on the head. It's new. New enough and buggy enough that developers are staying away from it for a time. I'm more then content to wait for an aditional service pack to come out before I even consider using it as my main gaming OS.
