Ecthelion 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2006 The two party system is summarily a failure of democracy. Beauraucracy and tradition have taken over the idea of truly electing the best candidate for the role of president. It's too deeply entrenched already to stop it or do anything about it, no third party candidate will ever be president. While I agree with the basic idea of your statement. I disagree on your conclusion. The two party system is only a failure if the moderates on both sides cannot be heard. I don't think it's so much of they can't be heard as they choose not to speak loud enough. As far as your analisys of a third party president, you're quite correct. But all of the alternative to the big two are just more extreme then the current parties. A unity ticket is much more likely and would be much more effective in leadership. I also think that it would bring a record voter turnout. The founding fathers had misgivings about the two party system. They were afraid that it would lead to devisiviness, and bickering. Which it has, but it also forces dialouge. It's just our misfortune/choice by those we elect that politians never seem to transgress into the realm of statesman. The system, any system, only works if those participating can look beyond their own narrow disires.
