4 Years UCA

Esteban

Recommended Posts

4 years ago a group of nerds, of which Juniorx, peteusmax, Mike (aka Rainbowpixy) and Keyboy were part, Hung out at a channel whispering everyone in their friends list to join them in the quest for 10 in order to form a guild. In this Warcraft 3 channel only 9 days after the releace of The Frozen Throne UCA was born. Its first goal was to acomodate a group of Canadian gamers with fellow canadians who played the game. Soon after Turbomanic2000 (JuniorX's brother) joined the ranks along with one FakeCanadian( else known as RoC and famed for his UCAbot and countless posts on our original forums) and a mister RecordRuiner7.0 (who would make sure the UCA name was heard on every WC3 forum in existance, or pretty close to that). I joined UCA the 30th of October a couple of week after turbo and I participated on the failed creation of the CSU (another canadian guild). UCA had just gone through its first clan wars with the guild STAB ( this guild was dedicated to backstabbing every player they came in contact with, not sure how that worked), with class and witty remarks we came somewhat victorious and had a couple of their members join us. STAB fell apart soon after.

We had hundreds of members join us, literaly. Twisted wounds who kept our website, Dark_malak who still plays with us as Torghan on WoW and was one of our best players ever and who , along with Turbo and I managed to get to the 18th spot in a couple of tournaments. Exist2Inspire who would take leadership after Junior got a job tongue.gif. Thunder fury, Caecer, Masternarf (a monster at the game). Este, who would make the entire guild call me Esteb instead of este, and who would along with malak and I take the win of most of the monday nights Free for alls. Stangmeister joined us too. Whip and Vlaming. And this bald guy who would never stop speaking about very obscure things like the WSG ([uCA]UN tongue.gif). and the ToR people who kept jumping between UCA and ToR for the fun of it. Jules who would make a Horde UCA guild in a server I dont remember anymore. Naked_n_Happy was there too biggrin.gif.

We had Team Warriors join us along the way too. This group of Quebecers, composed of Aerowarrior and his bro, Lone_Dragoon, Frostwarrior, made the guild a lot more enjoyable with their different playstyles.

With the growing ranks of UCA there was a need for change. We needed a way to controll all these people and keep some sort of focus. That is when our 2 rules emerged; Fun is our first goal, and our 1 ladder game a week.

We stablished a monday night free for all in which nothing was wrong and anyone could take part in. When the ladders reset one OrcTree made the oportunity his own and kept number 1 spot in the ladder for around a month untill RL matters stopped him from keeping this rank.

Then WoW closed beta came. Mike got an account who he handed down to JuniorX, turbo, Naked_n_happy, Orctree Exist and I. JuniorX made his WoW videos and became pretty recognized in the Blizzard community, being the only way people who wanted to play WoW got to know the game before release.

UCA moved to WoW, and left Kael123 in leadership of the WC3 branch (sadly he went on vacation and the UCA clan was deleted for innactivity). This is where we met Marbo, Stormhelm, Enigami and all of Stangmeister's friends who would move on to create Enlighten.

Due to the different interests of people and such, and very bad timing (our leaders got beaten with the "lots of work" stick) UCA fell appart in WoW and currently most of us are in different guilds right now but most of us keep in contact through battle.net or the UCA channel on WoW. I have managed to keep track of most our memebers so if anyone wants to speak to anyone they miss speaking to send me a tell or a PM or an MSN or call me to my place ( some of yeee have my number).

Happy Birthday UCA biggrin.gif

(I am pretty damn sure im forgeting a lot of people on that wall of text biggrin.gif)

Its amazing to realize that the UCA, a guild which I followed soon after their wars with the backstabbing clan in wc3, chose to play on this server. Its like serendipity! Grats on 4 years and here's to 4 more biggrin.gif

O I remeber hearing about UCA in WC3 from Synch, I personally hated the ladders and played mostly Custom games, but thats me and having no skills at all. But I remember the day when me and Synch first saw a UCA member, in Thelsamar with his tabard on.... It was great, we were so happy UCA was on the same Server as us

Here is some information that Esteban had forgotten, which is one of our biggest moments during Warcraft 3.

It was During 2003 when the Blizzard Invitational for Warcraft 3 began and most of us we wondering who will be participating, and seeing who will be represting Canada during this big tourny. When the players were listed, Canada wasn't there. There were many Americans, Koreans, Japanese, Europeans, but no Canadians (considering one of the best canadian players were in the top 5 rankings for solo i believe).

We then began posting on the Blizzard Forums brining up the question: Why wern't any Canadians invited? Blizzard responded to it by there typical solution: Delete it and Forget it.

After some quick thinking from Junior and some members of Clan SCARY, they decided to create a Canadian Invitational where Canadian Members could freely sign up, represent their province/territory and then see who comes out on top! It was a great idea.

We posted this on the Blizzard Forums and for a few days it was always near the top of the first page, with many people signing up and discussing the rules and such. We were very happy about this, but then Blizzard caught on and deleted the topic. We tried again, but Blizzard continuted to delete all the threads reguarding it. Now here is the funny part, there was also an American Invitational, open to US residents, but that topic was never deleted. We then learned that Blizzard hates Canada.

We got a website up for the Invational (thanks to AeroWarrior) and a somewhat decent, yet cheesy as heck, promo (made by Your's truly). Unfortunally because we had only taken down the names of the players account, it made it really hard to get it working and it never got off it's feet, which was a real shame. We tried again the next year, but the same thing happened.

Here are some important links to what the UCA Clan/Guild had done (either as a group, or individually)

Ah... memories! I still remember the time i was removed from the guild for inactivity when i was online every day.... lol <3 UCA =D

Exist you forgot to mention the trouble UCA had with blizzard once we moved to WoW smile.gif

UCA stands for united canadian alliance (btw i was the one that came up with the name "uca", we then invented "united canadian alliance" because we liked "uca" as its short-form name tongue.gif ), when the guild was formed in WoW it was named its full name, and blizzard promptly disbanded the guild because it had the name "canada" in it. This rases the question: why did blizzard include a canadian flag as a possible tabard design if we couldn't use the word "canada" in a guild name!? lol <3 crazy ol' blizzard...

We also once made a photo op of all of us in our tabards wearing staves enchanted with beastslaying to have a red glow... we made ourselves look like we were carrying hockey sticks and planned on submitting it for the blizzard photo contest; of course, it was regected as using "canada" as the theme, hahaha....

Finally, I have one last story of the ol' UCA days, one that makes everyone laugh when they hear it (sorry to all you UCA guys that I may have told this to in the past smile.gif ) I was walkin' down the street in SW wearing my tabard, and some random guy walks past me and stops; he sees my canadian flag tabard and sais to me "WOW! r u rlly canadian!?" i reply "yah, eh" as i always do tongue.gif he then responds "crazy! hey, is it true u guys up there get internet connection!?" **REMINDER** : he is asking me this WHILE playing WoW...

"No comment." comes to mind...

Anyways, here's to the old days of joys and sorrows, of using vent during FFA's and noone being brave enough to speak, of playing customs made by our own Exist, and of deffending Canada in chat rooms filled with americans, and one Quebec guy... Here's to UCA!

Oh yeah forgot about that part Krotas, but it continues with Blizzard's Pro-American Theme (no offense to anyone here), and their hatred with other countries.

Just to expand what Krotas said:

We first created the guild during the Closed Beta and had the name: United Canadian Alliance. During the whole time the Beta was up, the guild was never disbanded from Blizzard, changed in any way, and Mike got no warning about it.

When it came to the Retail time there where many guilds up. We had orginally created United Canadian Alliance (in its entirety) and it took about 2 days for blizzard to change it to United Alliance, which, as Krotas said, we changed back to UCA (go go acrynms). Blizzard also continuted to destory any Canadian Guilds, espeically French ones because of the "funny" letters they had.

Now here comes the funny part. During that time there were many guilds that had America(n) in its name, such as America's Army, The American Guild, and those ones were never changed (though the groups were disbanded shortly after because they changed servers. I kept tabs on them, as i believe JuniorX did as well). Funny.

Also, this mainly applies to the UCA guys, but if you have the emails of some, tell them about the Monday FFA!

  • 2 weeks later...

Jules still lives. I just noticed this post after I made mine. The Horde UCA fell through but I kept playing on my server and leveled up. I've been climbing up the honor rankings now. I'm a Lieutenant General on Gurubashi.

Yeah, it's a warlock. I rolled it a long time BEFORE they became flavor of the month, so I know what I'm doing and have been melting face for a while now. Doing pretty good on my server. It's gone through a lot of changes since the transfer but my guild is pretty cool to chill out with while I rank up. I just got two new mounts from being Lieutenant General. ^^
