Dear god. Way to go Bush. Government is FTW.

Oh.

I hate you all. Imagine me poking you in the arm all day long. Annoying? I hope so.

Do I have to post my SSN so you know who I truely am? How about a photocopy of my birth certificate? This is rediculous.

did any of you read the full article, this is all our senators doing, more than 50% of them passed the bill, and the article to make "annoying people" illlegal is tucked into a bill sure to pass.

they are all noobs and the law will not be enforced and cannot win against constitutional arguements, so why is it even a big deal? its not unless it does get enforced.

its just another stupid law on the books no one will care about until some idiot lawyer tries to abuse it.

ZOMG IM A FELON!!!!!!!!

this thing can not and will not stand up, if you read the entire article there is a section about a previously passed draft that was reasonable, and made sense. anyways, bush probably had nothing to do with this, for once i dont blame him, and i wont care if he accepts responsibilty.

Reader comment: A government lawyer intimately familiar with the subject who requests anonymity (but whose identity is legit, and known to Boing Boing) sez,

Your latest reader comment has it exactly right. The anonymous harassment provision ( Link ) is the old telephone-annoyance statute that has been on the books for decades. It was updated in the widely (and in many respects deservedly) ridiculed Communications Decency Act to include new technologies, and the cases make clear its applicability to Internet communications. See, e.g., ACLU v. Reno, 929 F. Supp. 824, 829 n.5 (E.D. Pa. 1996) (text here), aff'd, 521 U.S. 824 (1997). Unlike the indecency provisions of the CDA, this scope update was not invalidated in the courts and remains fully effective.

In other words, the latest amendment, which supposedly adds Internet communications devices to the scope of the law, is meaningless surplusage.

In other words: Troll away, folks.

www.boingboing.net is FTW! ..If you didn't already know. smile.gif

This is just... I dunno...

http://www.courttv.com/news/2006/0112/chat...m_suit_ctv.html

Man sues chatroom pals: I was humiliated beyond what 'no man could endure'

Gillespie, 53, claims that Marlowe and Bob Charpentier, a 52-year-old Oregon resident, insulted him and harassed him in the AOL chatroom called \"Romance — Older Men\" to the point where it inflicted \"severe emotional distress and physical injury that is of a nature no reasonable man could be expected to endure it.\"
