Valdez 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 So, I'm sitting there installing the stuff to copy Valdez to the test server. All of a sudden I hear a little 'pop' noise and my computer turns off. "Hmm, that can't be good" I think to myself. Suddenly, the smell of burning catches my attention. I can't see smoke, but I definitely smell something that my computer shouldn't be smelling like. So after taking the laptop apart, I find what appears to be a scorchmark on some stuff buried deep inside. Not exactly sure what it was, I'm not all that familiar with laptops internals, but my computer will no longer boot up. I do believe I'm going to be out of the loop for awhile. The warenty on my laptop is expired, so I'm going to have my friend's father look at it, he builds and services computers for a living. If he can't do anything about it, the earliest I'll have a new computer will probablly be Christmas, as I've been saving up to build a new one, and I've simply asked my parents for money so I can use it to build a new system. We'll see how it goes. Basically, for the time being, Valdez is retired. I will be comming back when I get a system to play on. Don't you fret. As always, FPFTMFW -Jeff (Valdez)

Kopi 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 Probably a capacitor...unless you have a soldering iron and a bit of electronics expertise, this probably won't be an inexpensive repair...

Valdez 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 Never fear FP, I'm still alive. I ended up taking apart my laptop, and it looks to me like the processor is fried. I'm waiting for my friend's dad to take a look at it, but I might break down and call Dell. My warranty expired over the summer but maybe begging and pleading and sexual favors will allow them to fix it without costing me an arm and a leg. We'll see. In the meantime, I'm on my old desktop. My grandpa has been sleeping in the room that this computer is in, so I haven't really been able to log on, but now that he went back to North Carolina this computer is mine once again. I don't even remember the specs on this, but I'm going to figure them out and possibly install WoW on here before I start going through withdrawls. Don't worry, worst comes to worst I'll just endlessly troll the forums until I get a system capible of playing WoW once again.
