Cottoneyejoe 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 So, about a week ago, my computer's hard drive gave out, so I've been using my laptop. I've actually been liking it better than my computer, even if it is a bit slower, because I can move around and everything while using it. The day I started using it, my dad even showed me how to plug my bass directly into the mic port of the computer so I could record myself. For any technology wizards out there, this will either make you laugh, or it will make you cry. Today, I was doing this, and I was a bit frustrated because I couldn't really change my EQ settings while I was directly plugged in. So, I decided I was going to go get my amp head, so I could add a bit of EQ to my sound, not realizing that plugging a 200 watt amp into this small laptop might cause some problems. I get everything set up, turn on the amp head, and play a few notes. It sounds really distorted (I still didn't realize this was bad), which I like. So, I proceed to play more and more and more, and then suddenly, sound stops coming out. I look over to my amp head, and realize that the Gain on my EQ is at max. I suddenly start to smell smoke. I freak the hell out and force the computer to shut down. I tell my dad what happened, and he just kind of sits there... staring at me. He goes "... Why would you do that?" I said "I wanted EQ settings." Now, clearly, I'm not a technology genius, as you can tell from this event. Apparently, my dad had a board that I could plug into that would have given me the ideal tone I wanted, without blowing out the sound of the laptop (which thankfully still works, I'm on it right now, there's just an annoying clicking sound now, and there's no other sound output). Well, that is my idiot moment for the day. Hope you enjoyed.

Fatherpeteus 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Poor laptop will never sing again. Until it gets a new motherboard anyway, I suppose.
