Aigle 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2009 I am considering purchasing a computer directly from Dell. Has anyone done it before? If yes how was your experience? Would you recommend purchasing online versus visiting Best Buy or Future Shop or any other computer shop?
Sauceboss 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2009 My laptop and my desktop are dell xps. Service was pretty fast considering I got them during holiday type times. It was good though if you are gonna buy a dell I'd get it from the company.
Ecthelion 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2009 I work for Dell Tech support. Buy them directly from Dell, if you buy a system from Best Buy, then they're the company that is going to cover the warranty for that system. Dell's whole thing is to make the system exactly the way that you'd want it. What I suggest is setting a budget for your system and seeing what you can get that would suit your needs for that amount of $. As far as your warranty goes, Get at least a 3 year warranty, and get Complete Care for your computer. Basically complete care is like an insurance policy for your system. It extends your warranty to cover customer damage, like if you were to spill a drink on it and ruin your computer, we could replace it for you free of charge. I'd also recommened getting Next Business Day service for your system. So should your screen break, instead of sending the system back into Dell for repair and being with out a computer for 7-10 days, we can send a tech to you to service it. There are a great deal of excellent laptops from Dell that you can get for a modicum of money. XPS' are a great place to start of you're after a gaming portable. If you have any other questions I'll do the best that I can to answer them. Hope this helps.
Mullytt 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2009 The last 3 PCs I've bought, I've bought directly from Dell. I have no complaints about any of the machines, and Dell replaced the display on my wife's laptop like a week after the warranty expired w/o any problem. My XPS desktop is finally dying after 3+ years, but I bet if I just got more RAM, it'd be back in business. The Inspiron 1720 I currently spend all my time on runs beautifully. /recommend
lemontree 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2009 my laptop and desktop are both straight from dell. i've had no issues with their customer service, and the only piece of hardware yet to crap out on my 2+ year old desktop is the cdrom drive which just up and stopped working one day. otherwise, no complaints. Beckbristow 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2009 I punched my last Dell laptop in the screen. It didn't solve the slow download speed caused by my shitty router. But it made watching pr0n extremely interesting.

Aigle 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Thank you for your feedback. I will most probably purchase from Dell since I don't seem to be able to find the excat correct spec I want at Best Buy or Future Shop as mentionned by Ecthelion . Plus the idea of a next day tech servicing your computer at home sounds very interesting.

Aigle 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) build your computer yourself, its cheaper, it really not that hard to do, start with the case i have, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...3&Tpk=Antec Certainly a good idea but not for me since I have zero knowledge and zero time to spend doing that. However the difference in price is huge... Stll thank you for the suggestion. Edited January 6, 2009 by Aigle
Killerpriest 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) I don't seem to be able to find the excat correct spec I want at Best Buy or Future Shop as mentionned by Ecthelion. Awww Future Shop!! i <3 Canada! =D I bought my Inspiron 3700 from Dell in 2000. first gen. of laptops with a dvd-rom drive, it was $3,500 rediculously enough. I loved the PC, maxxed out the memory in it, BUT the keyboard kept dying on me and being PoS. Luckily, as Ecth recommended, i had the full-on service/replacement program. Within a year or two, i had the keyboard replaced about 8 times, the tech came right to my house. A couple of those broken keys may have been done on purpose... the tech was hot lol so i didn't mind the constant keyboard issues. so yeh, i loved the laptop, nothing but good things, loved the service program even more tho lol if i didnt build my own desktops, i would probably still be buying from dell. /recommend edit: sorry ecth, but i am also a fan of HP notebooks at the moment too, they have decent stuff going on as well Edited January 7, 2009 by Killerpriest

Killerpriest 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 oh well, being that you work for Dell. I thought you may be a little biased towards your employer, understandably
