Burning DvD's to an iTouch/iPhone

I got one of the new 8g iTouches for christmas and am having a blast with it, bought a few applications and downloaded a ton of free ones. I'll never be bored again :)

But i have a question for anyone else out their who has one...

Has anyone figured out how to burn a dvd onto your computer into a video file? I have a program that will put video files into Itunes but i'm not sure if its possible to burn a dvd to your computer.

Any help on the subject would be awesome, thanks guys :)

ipod video requirements are really picky about size, bitrate, and file types. They keep it that way so you'll just buy things from itunes instead of using your own content.

I have a converter that will put stuff I got online (.divx, .xvid, .mkv, .ogm, .mpg, .avi) into m4a format, but I would imagine it would take a lot of work to actually rip a coded DVD into m4a.

Whatever program you find would have to do two things. It'd have to take the DVD and turn it into a raw rip (which is rather large). Usually your DVD player reads the disc progressively, but creating a rip will turn the whole disc into one giganto file...at least 4gigs I'd imagine (a typical compressed 30 minute anime episode, for example, is about 300 megs).

Once you have this giant turd of a file, the program would then have to convert it to .m4a format. I'd be wary of this actually, only because I don't know how DVD menus would transfer to an iPod format (I doubt there are any programs readily available that are elegant enough to preserve the menus and carry over touch screen functionality).

TL;DR, probably not, and beware anything that says it does. It doesn't seem feesible. Plus as BW said Apple likes to keep you locked on their file extensions.

Handbrake has trouble sometimes getting past any copyright protection your DVD may have. *shrug* I've used it before with mixed results. Have had to use other programs (like anyDVD) to get past the copyright protection.

It's opensource though, so I guess it couldn't hurt to try your luck with it.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

DL whichever one you want, get a crack, and gogogogogo

I've cracked them and ripped dvd's to my PSP, cell phone, all kinds of nonsense. it ripped the 2 disc lord of the rings movies into about 400mb files each for my cell phone. so epic. Half Baked was under 200mb. once you get the bitrate and resolution right, it looks great. good sound quality too.

I get cracks, from www.cracks.am but beware, those files can be buggy and i wouldnt be surprised if they have virus or keyloggers and stuff in the cracks.. I have a craptop i use specifically for doing questionable stuff. i dont keep personal info on it, and i keep it isolated on my network. so i dont care if it gets loaded up with viruses and garbage.

but yeh, tomp4 softwaere is pretty awesome and not hard to use. one cracked the software ROCKS. trial version only allways like 25% of the media to be ripped.
