Kurangis 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 Season 5 is starting today, and idk about you guys, but after my unfinished season 4 i'm pretty excited.. Figured I would say a couple things to put out there for people getting started. Basically the thing to realize for this season is that resilience doesn't exist in a notable form yet. Nobody will be resilience capped, and if they are they'll be gimped anyways. With this said, all teams will be completely reliant on burst, if not exceptional healer(s) as well. Right now DPS/Healer teams in 2s will be gimped to hell, so just be aware if you choose to go down that road, especially against double dps. In about a month though it may equal more. DKs will be overpowered in arenas. Shamans are the new druids. Rogues will tear up clothies even moreso. Knockback mechanics will be annoying. Warlocks are no longer a threat. 2345 teams or trifecta will dominate 5s. Euros will probably suck this early in gear. But uh, here's a post from blizzard I pulled from WoR that might help a bit, and the tier raid they are talking about is Vault of Archavon, from Wintergrasp: With Arena Season 5 launching on December 16, we wanted to provide some helpful information. The method in which Arena or Honor items can be purchased will be slightly different then how it was before. For Arena items, there will be 3 tiers of purchasable set items that includes pieces for the Head, Shoulders, Chest, Gloves, and Legs as follows: Tier 1 - Superior (blue) quality items: * No rating requirements * Costs Honor and Arena points * Equivalent to heroic dungeon items Tier 2- Epic (purple) quality items: * Medium rating requirements * Costs Arena points * Equivalent to 10-person raid items Tier 3 - Epic (purple) quality items: * High rating requirements * Costs Arena points * Equivalent to 25-person raid items * This tier will also contain Arena weapons In addition, there will be two tiers of Honor items that includes pieces for the neck, ring, boots, belt, bracer, and trinket as follows: Tier 1 – Epic (purple) quality items: * Medium rating requirements * Costs Honor points * Equivalent to 10-person raid items Tier 2 – Epic (purple) quality items: * High rating requirements * Costs Honor points * Equivalent to 25-person raid items Anyways, I hope that helped a little bit. and if anybody read more than the "season five is starting today," I'm proud of you<

Feanore 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 (edited) A. Shouldn't this be in the PvP section? B. Should I just quit now. From what I can see ferals are as useless as ever in anything but 2s... I was really looking forward to some new arenas, but all I'm thinking now is it's going to be hard to find a good comp, even harder to find someone I know that will be interested/available to fill that comp and, finally, that basically I'll be disregarded in PvP discussions realm-wide because of: What's your rating? lol WTB: 1v1 arenas Edited December 16, 2008 by Feanore

Krotas 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 fea you should try to collect some feral tanking gear. My room mate is the main druid tank for a high end raiding guild and (even at lvl 70 when people had resiliance) he absolutely wrecks face in PvP in his tanking gear. I mean seriously... with bear form armor 40K hp is an efton to burn through!
Memphis 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 B. Should I just quit now. From what I can see ferals are as useless as ever in anything but 2s... Don't give up FiFi! .. just remember that we have no mana pool so roots and cyclone are right out as well as any heals other than frenzied regen... unless you don't want to be able to get back in to form.. BUT we should be able to 2-3 shot most clothies.. OH.. and with the armor nerf, rogues have become a problem again. It might be worth it to spec bearish just to PvP and live for 3 extra seconds. I refuse to respec boom/resto for a rating. Never. Going. To. Happen.

My room mate is the main druid tank for a high end raiding guild and (even at lvl 70 when people had resiliance) he absolutely wrecks face in PvP in his tanking gear. I mean seriously... with bear form armor 40K hp is an efton to burn through! No... I've never had a problem in PvP...'Wrecking face' is not the issue. The point is it's impossible to get any PvP gear (or respect) without decent ratings, which requires a decent team, which normally requires anything but a feral druid. This is just the same old crap ferals have been dealing with since day one. Difference is, pre-BC it was raiding where we got dumped on. Now it's arenas. Sure, you get the odd player that really shines in a single bracket (like Atrus), and even more rarely someone like Pykan that maintains a high rating through all brackets, but both of the aforementioned people had dedicated team mates not to mention both have either rerolled or respec'd in the last 6 months...What does that tell you? Like Memphis, I simply refuse to respec, so I guess I'm my own worste enemy. Trees and Mana Turkeys just don't turn me on. On the bright side, DK is one of the few other classes that hasn't bored me after a few lvls so...Depending on how much time I have to lvl Coffinbone he may become my new main. Daghostmaker 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 OH.. and with the armor nerf, rogues have become a problem again. I have 5500 armor compared to your 30k. Add that to the fact that I hit normal mobs for about 1/2 what you do and you can see my current issue with class balance. But since rogues have been PvP god-mode for a while I'll keep it mostly to myself.

Sauceboss 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 Shaman aren't REALLY the new druids imo. We're still missing vital abilites to make us move and heal. We have considerably more ways to live, but we're not gonna be able to do what druids did at their prime.

We have considerably more ways to live, but we're not gonna be able to do what druids did at their prime. It's hard to beat a class that uses fire and forget HoTs, but Shaman is looking pretty solid considering, as Letica already pointed out, healers will have to keep up with nuke crits...And HoTs don't really cover that. Feanore 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 Ok, this wasn't meant to be a feral QQ session. My apologies for starting it. What I was getting at is after reading various descriptions online, I'm not seeing anything particularly new or interesting other than the landscape mechanics. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it still looks like the gear is gonna go to the best cookie cutter teams.
Kurangis 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 oh sorry, yeah i forgot about the pvp section =] i needed something to do though while i was waiting for the bus this weekend, and i kinda just woke up then.. so.. yeh. but uh, ferals are more empowered now than they were. don't know if you remember s1 fairly well, but in 2v2s ferals definitely were overpowered, but.. 3s and 5s, i'm honestly not too sure. 5s trifecta (tri melee) could be OP for ferals, now that shamans took the place of restos, therefore you don't need an enhancement shaman. So like.. Warrior/Rogue/Feral/RestoS/DiscP, but uh.. I'm really not too sure. 3s? I'm really not too sure.. I'm sure somebody will find some overpowered comp involving a feral druid, like shadowplay prebc w/ ua/spriest/restoshaman, but uh.. hell, idk. now that windfury effects druids, i think you have, surprisingly, a lot more room. i just know boomkins are more overpowered thanks to the spellpower buffing, healing will go up the yingyang for boomkins, making them basically resto druids with more boom. oh, and at the EPeen quote.. had 2017 2s and quit on the spot, had max like 1900ish 3s? with Gunsmoke and Disorderly, we went like.. 25-0, but then the dunecoons schedule messed us up =[ -- 5s.. I led a 2345 team up to 1950ish... and joined a Euro up to like 1900, and we couldn't max the potential though =[

Arena will ALWAYS be this way, simply because the way the game is "balanced" Arena is the only place where I agree with the play to win ramblings. The teams that are cookie cutter are there because it's the best working comp. It's got the best set up to not only defend, but counter and go on the offensive. It's not impossible for non cookie cutter teams to make it, look at the arena finalists in the first 5s tourney, there was a hunter in the group, and back then hunters were pretty rare in the arena, and everyone was still under the impression that they sucked. I refuse to respec for the arena, so I feel your pain, I'm only gonna play specs that I have fun in, but I do love healing in 5s in the arena. If you don't want to respec then don't do it, but this season is going to be ALL about burst so if you're wanting to get at the arena, this season is the time because feral druids have some SERIOUS burst damage going for them. Find another burst hybrid for 2s and smash some serious face. The first season of arena is the only good seasons for enhancement shaman aswell so. I agree with the feral burst potential, I've actually thought of a feral druid as a partner for this season to try a mutilate/feral combo... I'd honestly like to see anything withstand the burst... this doesnt even include the CC that is available.

They upped the shifting costs and basically removed all the int from druid gear. You get maybe a cyclone if you wanna keep your oh shit bear form, and switches to kitty to get outta CCs. You get maybe a cyclone if you wanna keep your oh shit bear form, and switches to kitty to get outta CCs. Keep in mind this is changing next patch. One of our talents that all ferals get will also reduce the cost of shifting to peanuts. I've heard from a couple people that burst teams are the way to go right now and healers aren't needed (this sucks cuz I planned to pvp as a tree x_x), but isn't that just because they don't have a lot of resilience yet? Once everyone is decked out in epic PvP gear I have to assume that burst won't be effective, that games will last longer and healers will play a bigger role. Maybe I'll just end up being feral for PvP. :-\ Someone help me out on this. I'm an arena noob.
Drunknduncan 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2008 Hykos, currently it looks like burst teams are the way to go, or at least till people get a lot more resilience. I just took a look at Ruin's current 2v2 ladder, and although its only been 2 days, its completely dominated by 2 dps teams. Pretty much its all feral druid/rogue/mage (any two out of that three) or some ret pally/dk/rogue (two out of that three). With most people not having resilience melee damage is just so much better than caster damage and healing because of the quick burst. If you look at a feral/rogue team, they can front load so much burst onto a player before they realize what's going on, and healer teams are pretty much useless against that for now. I would expect this to change a few months down the line when healers and casters get more resilience, but for now it seems like melee train is the way to go. Also, looking at 3s it appears two melee with a shaman or pally healer is the way to go as well.
Ryee 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2008 Healers can definitely survive the burst right now with minimal resillience. I did fine last night doing 2s with Memphis. The rules have changed a bit, at least for this season though. Gone are the days of stopping in place for 5-7 seconds to throw a couple heals out. If anyone catches you, you're probably toast. BUT! Usually after making it past the first 10 seconds of engagement in a 2s match, Memphis is already doing enough damage to force a 2 dps team to focus on her (or die), leaving me open to heal. You'd also be surprised at the number of people not currently wearing a pvp trinket in the 1500-1600 bracket in our battlegroup. /hex
