Atrus 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 Given this very important news by blue, I thought I would relay to anyone who may be oblivious to what can happen on Nov 13. First is the quote which is plenty self-explanatory. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.h...cId=11228564463 The Wrath of the Lich King DVD contains the installer for patch version 3.0.1. This means installing the expansion will require you to patch back up to the latest version of the game after installation. Since you will have already downloaded all of the patches prior to Wrath of the Lich King's launch, you will not need to download them again, unless you delete them. Which means, we highly encourage players avoid deleting any 3.0.x patches until after the installation of Wrath of the Lich King.Of course if you would like to hang on to these patch files just in case you need to reinstall the game at a later date, you're free to do so, as it would save you the time of having to re-download them. So, here's the deal; read one of the two following sections depending on your situation: I will be using my live 3.X install on release day The blue quote says when you go to install WOTLK from the DVD in the box, it's going to un-patch you down to 3.0.1 which is already below the current live build. Make sure you have the completed 3.0.2 patch (and any future patches from now before Nov 13) somewhere on your harddrive so you won't need to download it again that day. Be aware there is a difference between the completed patch which should be a few files in your Updates folder, and the torrent for that patch which looks like a blue swirly tornado exe file. Having just the torrent is useless because all that's going to do is download the actual patch data. I currently have the beta client and will be playing WOTLK off that install on release day I've personally seen what happens (in TBC's case) if you attempt to continue playing from the beta client. You will be able to play up until the next patch. The beta client will no longer work after future patches. Ultimately this means that even if you are in the beta now, you should install off the DVD on release day and follow the instructions in the above quote and delete your beta install. For further detail about what the difference between 3.0, WOTLK, and the WOTLK DVD is, read the following: -Aside from all the features, the live 3.0 patch installed any graphics that a non-wotlk player would need to be able to view wotlk players in wotlk gear who come back to the old world. -Upgrading your account with the WOTLK cd key on release day will enable your account for wotlk server-content such as making a DK and zoning into Northrend. Regardless of when you get your box, this cannot happen before midnight on Nov 13 because Blizzard controls the servers to activate at that time. -The DVD inside the WOTLK box will contain the 3.0 patch you already have, but also any graphics you will need to be able to travel into Northrend itself. Blizzard can't/didn't want to merge the northrend models on the DVD (which only someone going to northrend would need) with a later install of the live 3.0 patch, hence the blue quote. dragonlgnd 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2008 Honestly I didn't fully understand it either. The question is, am I really going to have problems installing? or am I just going to have to repatch. If this will cause more difficulties... Blizz will have a couple million subscribers pissed off, and that's not a good way to begin an expansion. Atrus 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2008 Dumb Kid Version (Or Lyyna's Answer): Keep your 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 patches so you don't have to redownload them when you install.
Aigle 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2008 Why would I not keep 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 ? How do I get rid of those?
