Fatherpeteus 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Not turning off my TV until i find out. I'll let you know as soon as i find out. This is the civil rights issue of our generation. Meh - I think the right of poor people to get decent medical care, or the whole illegal worker thing would be a lot more important than couples getting some official piece of paper to prove something they already knew? I guess it depends which side of those fences you sit on. Will be interesting to see the result though, for sure. I would be very surprised if it passes in Cali. I haven't caught if the Dems got the fillibuster-proof senate they were hoping for... Maybe not? Daghostmaker 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 I haven't caught if the Dems got the fillibuster-proof senate they were hoping for... Maybe not? No. At this hour, they have 54 seats, Republicans have 40 and there are 2 independents with 4 seats still in contention.

Gynis 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 If all of the Homos left california, the state would shut down. Bye-bye movie industry. That's kind of sad. But - the word "marriage" is the hot button. The issue isn't "proving" something they already knew, it's somehow securing the same rights between domestic partners as a husband and wife in relation to property, living wills, medical decisions, taxes, and insurance. It's a piece of paper that does more than say you care for your wife/husband. In fact, I'm pretty sure in the eyes of the law, it doesn't really matter if you love the person or not. Hykos 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 anyway, expect it all to change by 2016. That's when Gen Y becomes the largest single voting block in the country, overtaking the baby boomers. And we tend to support the issue overwhelmingly.

And we tend to support the issue overwhelmingly. Agreed. Im not worried, and if anything this election shows us anything is possible. However, it does little to reduce the sting right now, but it'll be all good because it'll just motivate more people to do what they can to reverse it. Daghostmaker 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 I think this story continues. Obama will be building his cabinet, which I heard his campaign manager say late last night would be 3 things: Diverse, Bipartisan and New. No recycling of the same old players that have been around the scene for years. Fresh faces with fresh ideas, like much of the rest of his campaign has been. I'm pretty interested in seeing it come together.

Hykos 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 But seriously, what is 8? =( Proposition to amend the California state Constitution to ban single sex marriages. Arizona and Florida had similar amendments on their ballots. As of today, 26 states have amended their constituions to ban it and like a dozen others have statutes against it. Only 2 allow marriages now, a couple allow cival unions, and a couple recognize marriages performed in other countries/states. Hykos 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 http://www.theonion.com/content/news/bush_...being_president WASHINGTON—In a press conference held this morning on the White House lawn, President Bush formally asked the assembled press corps and members of his own administration if, in light of today's election, he could stop being the president now. "So it's over, right? Can I stop being president now?" Bush said after striding to the podium in a Texas Rangers cap and flannel shirt, carrying a fully packed suitcase. "Let's just say I'm done as of now. Presidency over." When informed by Washington Post reporter David Broder that his presidency would continue through early January, Bush stared at him quizzically, sighed, and shuffled silently back into the White House.
