Indeed I have talked with my obgyn and I'm very lucky to have found a doctor who agrees that there is nothing wrong with leaving a male exactly the way he was born into this world. Anyway off to work. Have a super fantastic day all.

Not to split hairs, but for the most valid medical opinion, I would talk with someone who specializes in wangdanglers, and not ***ts and runts.

I believe it was first a religious rite because it was a hygiene issue. What better way to make your tribe healthier than to tell them to cut off the top of their hoo-hoo-dillys? Unless one believes that god truly did speak with Abraham and command him to circumsize himself and his tribe, then their has to be a reasonable beginning to the practice. I parenthetically mentioned the pork and shellfish because those, like most kosher regulations, were just hygenic purposes slipped into holy text.

If that were the case it takes away a bit from the whole religious miralce and blessings idea if something isn't done out of respect or command of your deity but instead because it's easier to clean. I mean isn't that the whole point of these religions, to believe that God truly did speak to these historical biblical charecters and set forth laws in which to live by? But that is a whole different type of debate. I guess in the end it is a personal choice every parent faces on their own. Much love and respect. GG.

And yet it's not those who specialize in "wangdangers" that perform the surgery in question. It is either an obgyn or a pediatrician. Odd.

I say let the kid decide himself when he's older. Schools are so conservative these days I doubt he would have to get naked in front of his friends anyway. Plus, if he did, it would teach him the valuable lesson of "who gives a flying f*&k what other people think about me (and/or my dong)"

There can be problems later on with being "natural", i.e. the foreskin being too tight. Apparently it can be extremely painful trying to pull the sheath down during erections.

I've heard that too HV but apparently it's pretty rare when a guys foreskin is that tight. I've read that on average by the time a boy is 5 his foreskin is totally retractable. My main thing is exactly how you put it Hvizzle, leaving my son intact to allow him to decide for himself when he's older. It's not my body and as long as something isn't a serious threat to my childs health I think they should have the option of making decisions that alter their appearance at a later date. BTW That video was the awesomeness. I love Mel Brooks!!

Mine isn't just retractable, it's prehensile.

Oh Soma, I love when you use your large diction to make light of things. (painful pun is painful)

Also, if your member IS prehensile, can we get married like, yesterday? kthx

What is the goal of this thread? As Vanin said, if you're trying to discourage any of the forum members from being tricked into this, it's a bit late. And I can count on one hand the number of soon-to-be parents reading this. I don't think there's any especially large stigma for being circumcised or uncircumcised nowadays. Why does America adhere to this practice? Well, my money's on having roots in an uber-puritanical religion that continues to shape everything from the mode we elect government officials, what's printed on our money, to whether we want our wankers hooded or exposed.

Also, the studies involving circumcised vs uncircumcised African men and HIV transmission rates is perfectly logical. No one would argue that access to a condom would dramatically reduce the transmission rates among both circ and uncirc males, but in its marked absence, the study looks at what role specifically the foreskin plays in aiding/preventing transmission. *shrug*

Not to argue religion here, but a really good way for the biblical writers to instill cultural values was to put their beliefs down in the Bible itself. Sure circumcision was a way to mark the tribe of Israel 'apart' from the pagans/gentiles, a good way to get everyone on board with this was to write it down in the Bible--make it law. That's not to discredit the whole account as something that was just made up; however, the authors of the Bible were human after all, so putting down their history/values parallel to their beliefs in God is a smart move. Reading the Bible 100% literally usually leads to trouble/misunderstandings (as we would need to quickly stone all the fornicators, masturbaters, homosexuals, people who broke dietary law, etc.)

I kind of think after reading all your responses that this is a bit of a stab at circumcision as a hold-over from a religion you do not practice/care for (particularly your use of the words "blood rite"), but again I would direct you to our nation's own religious backgrounds if you have any curiosity why this is so prevalent in our country.

As for your own child, *shrug*. Get it done, don't get it done. I'm circumcised, I don't think it's preventing me from truly enjoying sex as I would if I had foreskin. I'm not particularly tramautized from an event that I don't even remember, nor has it deterred me from masturbating. Do what you think is best for your child, no one will look at him differently either way.

Honestly, I let Ez decide this one for our son. I don't have the parts, he does. Our dr. didn't really encourage or discourage it at all... he gave us pros and cons.. which was a very short list on both sides. Long story short, he had it done, and is fine.

Also, with the biblical thing.. lots of things back in the old testament.. ummm.. for example!.. Pork: to eat it, or not to eat it?.. Well, back then refrigeration was unavailable, so people were regularly dying of trichinosis (salmonella for the shellfish peeps) so what better way to stop that than just NOT eat it?.. Make it a 'law', and people have to follow it right?.. well.. back then if they followed it, they weren't going to be dying from nasty meat. =)

I'm way too tired to be the 'Ryee' level of clever today <3

After reading this thread I've come to the conclusion that circumcisions aren't cool anymore. Its something that your grandpa and grandma would do. So when i have kids I'm totally going with a subincision!

slightly NSFW and might cause pain in your hoo-hoo-dilly

Well, my money's on having roots in an uber-puritanical religion that continues to shape everything...

I'd say Sharia law is a little more uber than the generalized American christianity. I read somewhere while reading up on this that the majority of circumcisions that happen now are actually amongst muslims. Five bucks says the more conservative and Abrahamic a territory is, the more they leave a tip.

Saying that a majority of something happens among Muslims is a bit skewed don't you think? Being the largest religion in the world, youre bound to have more people being circumcised there than in your favorite Jesus lives in Texas cult.

Circumcision began as a covenant between Abram's family and God after Abram was willing to sacrifice his son after God told him to. God told him to stop before he sacrificed his son, because he just wanted to test Abram's faith. After this, God commanded Abram to have every male in his family to be circumcised, as a sign of the covenant between the descendants of Abram and God. Later on, God renamed Abram, so he's known as Abraham.

Now, that's why the Jews and Christians are circumcised. If you don't believe in God, it just comes down to whether or not your son wants to do it or not. As mentioned before, not having it done can be uncomfortable.

i've just barely skimmed over this thread very minimally, im going to ignore all the religious aspects of it cause i have no opinion on that.

i just wanted to add that im uncut and i guess im lucky? (following test might be offensive) mine isnt too tight to pull back i think i remember the first time i went to bat solo it was kinda tight but since then it pulls itself out from under the covers if i get an erection, its easy to clean it takes like an extra 5 secs to pull it back and give it one good soapy stroke. but like after a day or so or an hour or so following activity with or without a partner it can develop an odor. its not really unpleasant but if you let it ride for 2-3 days it can get pretty funky.

i cant say to much about the extra ring around the collar for any partner of mine ive never really asked, "hey does my foreskin feel good?"

aaaand thats all i wanted to add, also someone told me about getting circumcised later in life but honestly i'd go through withdraw not being able to spank it for a week or however long the recovery time is.

Circumcision goes much further back than the Torah. Tribes in Africa, Australia, Egypt and the Arabian peninsula all show proof of the practice long before Abraham and the book of Genesis.

Personally I like Memphis's simple take on it

I'm just happy Candi and I agree on the subject.

Mix biology with religion and sociology, and I'm game for just about anything.

And being able to ejaculate puns and erecting plays on words, it's stimulating, I just hope I don't sound too heady.

This thread really had no purpose other than I figured it would spark some really interesting conversation in this group of folks. You have to admit you guys do have some of the most interesting and opinionated people ever assembled into one guild. Around my homewtown the only type of conversation and ideas I could get from people were "well my doctor told us to" or "aren't all guys supposed to e circumcisied". Gabe was the first to bring up not wanting our son circumcisied. He has a son from his previous marriage who is uncirced as well and having raised Benny almost entirely as a single parent he said he never had any trouble with the cleaning and Benny has yet to have any type of UTI to date. Benny is almost 3yrs old now. Actually the bigger issue between us is the mohawk!!! Benny has a mohawk and I'm 100% anti mohawk.
