Malkoran 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 WWI 2008 Day 2 PVP Game Systems Wintergrasp * First outdoor world zone entirely dedicated to PVP * Only a few PVE elements * No control for number of opposing forces, only statistics help designing. Supports large and small scale combat * Siege Weapons on ground and in air * Destructable buildings * Taking control of Wintergraps gives an Spirit Shard-like loot for every boss in Northrend * Rewards will be unique version of other items * Honor and "Marks of Honor" * A river is also added, that ground siege weapons can't cross. * There are bridges, which are destructable of course. The bridges are wide and tall. * Graveyards are capturable and help as the offense advances * The goal is to capture a huge keep. Every wall of the keep is also destructable * The walls have stationary cannons to defend against siege weapons * Players can tell what percentage of the destructable elements are destroyed Siege Weapons * The Demolisher: baseline vehicle. Support short and long range attack type and ram attack. Bombard players and buildings. Houses the driver who fires the weapons. Also houses 3 exposed players who can fight with their own spells as if they were standing still. * Forsaken Catapult: faster than the Demolisher. More agile than the rest of the siege weapons. Shorter range, but still longer than player combat range. Lower damage, flame breath attack at the front. 2 additional passanger. Costs less supplies at the siege warshop than other siege weapons. * Siege Engine: hardest hitting, longest range ground vehicle. Driver controlls the ram attack, independent gunner in the turret that can turn around fires the main weapons. Additional passengers are protected. * Fighter: very fast air vehichle, used for transportation, vulnerable against anti-air weapons. * Bomber: fast air vehicle. Carries a pilot and a gunner who controls the bombs. * Goblin Shredder: counter-air unit, long-range ground-to-air rockets against fighters and bombers. Also works as a personal armor suit, once the vehicle is destroyed the player can continue fighting on its own. Strong melee attack with its shredders. Ability to jump high to destroy incoming rockets and jump over walls. Vulnerable against ground siege weapons Arenas * Keep the new ones simple but still innovate * Moving objects in the arena - dynamic LOS. Can be timed, can be set random. Helps focusing on player skill. * Unique starting areas, that might be very close to each other * 2 new arenas, one in Dalaran, one in Orgrimmar Dalaran Arena * Based on the new lore of the city * Arena map is located in the sewers of the flying capital city of Northrend * No mounts allowed * Similarly sized as the Blade's Edge arena * The dynamic element is a pipe, a wall of water flows out of it sometimes, that is a complete LOS block * Only a few ramps to the center area, player-height ledge on the sides * Water shoots players out of the starting area, players can't stay or return there Orgrimmar Arena * New area in the old world * Dynamic objects that do damage to players (spikes) * Moving pillars on timers, players will see a wheel spin up before that happens * Extremely close starting areas - elevators bring players up to the center of the arena, only 10 yards away from each others, the spikes drop and the fight begins * Mounts are allowed * Bigger than Dalaran Arena * Orcs like watching fights, so there are NPCs on the edges who make noise too! * Players can stand on the pillars that sometimes move up. Still vulnerable to ranged damage there * When the pillars go up, the spikes come out of the ground so the player has to decide what to do. Take the damage when moving across the area? Stay separated from the group? * No other LOS objects * Players have a couple of seconds to check out the opponents before the spikes go down and the fight starts Battleground * Located on an island off Dragonblight, which was a Titan testing area * The zone has an attack-defend game type: when the event goes active one side attacks, the other defends. Once the time has run out, the winner faction gets control of the resources. If the attack fails the offense gets a resource advantage to help on the next wave. * Destructable walls and buildings * Siege weapons and warshops * Attackers start on 2 steam battleships in the water and play to reach the top of the valley * Defenders start on the beach close to the dock and play to defend the capture points at the top * 3 sections of destructable walls in the valley * Behind the walls there are siege warshops, the controlling side can use it. * 10vs10 or 15vs15, not decided yet * Similarly sized as the rest of the battlegrounds Q&A Some players lose battlegrounds on purpose to get marks faster. They are tuning the winning and losing rewards to solve this, they are also using the Report feature for this. Spectator mode in Arenas? Still on the list, but some players don't want to be spectated so it's a complex issue. They are also thinking about spectating raids as well City raids make servers crash. What's going to happen in Wintergraps? They are working on the technical side. If there are many players, you might see less into the distance to help computer and server performance. The objectives are also spaced apart so players don't cramp up. Will BG and Arena rewards be freed from each other? The PVP loot structure will remain the same. Arena will give 5 slots and the weapons, honor will give the rest. Some class' CC abilities are better for PVP, others for PVE. They don't see that as a problem. They are trying to balance them. Any change for Warlock pet resilience and AOE damage scaling? They are happy with the pet scaling right now. Faction imbalance in Battlegrounds? It's the result of being able to queue for more battlegrounds, and the starting time is the same as the popup question timeout. They are going to be changes to fix this. Kurangis 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I talked about this the other day in GChat. I'm really excited with the moderation they plan to add. The introduction of siege weapons will be fun for when I have nothing better to do, and I hope they get a decent honor system going. Such as you do so much destruction, or you do a World PVP Objective you get some decent honor, aside from just KBs. I just hope they add some type of unique way to get honor, that's more than just a grind. The dynamics they're adding to arenas is extremely exciting as a mage. Since I'm, generally, the only class who is extremely effected by LoS factors. Since my only useful instant cast is Ice Lance. Having a druid just play ring-around-the-posies whenever they get below 90% HP, while dots tick me away. Same with warlocks >.< .. Environmental factors are definitely fun to some type of killing spree. Quake 3 Arena is a perfect example of that. ___ I really hope this 'world buff' they plan to add in Wintergrasp is a USEFUL buff. Large increase in offensive damage (5% would be sexy) - maybe a low chance to have a drop which can be used to get something like Heroic Badge rewards. Something that isn't just a one time use either. Consumables/Gems/Etc would be a good example of utilizing that. Halaa was a great example of a messup. You get welfare PvP gear that is terribad, and a unique gem. Basically you go there, get the gem after a GRIND, and you have to be in the friggin place. Get the gem, you're out. In which is useless now anyways since you can just spend an hour farming 300g for a gem, or spend a day or two for a unique gem with the same effect. Just something to get everybody involved. Daghostmaker 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) Just something to get everybody involved. The problem is that a majority of WoW players don't want to be involved and that's the contigent that Blizzard caters to. They only get involved in PvP for the free epics. For example: Premades in BGs. The general populous was not happy with the 1 in 10 times they got rolled by a premade. Although it seems fair to me that if me and my friends care enough to get a group together and queue for a BG, we should be able to play together without some addon that gives you a 5% chance to get your 15 man in the same battle. But since a vast majority complained, and that's where most of the money comes from for Blizzard (by virtue of it being the majority), premade queues have been f&*ked to the point people only do BGs to grind the honor for their items. I remember PvPing for the sake of having fun with my friends, rolling AB for the whole weekend without a loss. Hearing JR slur and nearly pass out from taking a shot for each 5 cap. Another example is all the guards in neutral cities. Despite people having rolled on a PvP server, some just dont like to PvP. Oh the memories... I knew I liked you Erik, but that cemented it for me right there. PvP for me, and those that really care about it, isn't for the rewards. It's for the reputation and honor that goes along with being feared amongst your peers.
Cottoneyejoe 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 The premade thing pissed me the f**k off. Premades were actually the biggest reason that I returned to the game. I liked PvP'ing with friends. Hell, even when the group was full of crappy alts it was fun. I'm not going to continue this post though, because Ghost already said everything. Kurangis 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 PvP for me, and those that really care about it, isn't for the rewards. It's for the reputation and honor that goes along with being feared amongst your peers. This is definitely true, and I agree with it completely. But ghost pretty well summed it up, the majority don't care about that type of thing. They just want to be baby-fed welfare gear or rewards or whatever exists at the time. I wanted a nice reward system like, heroic badges per say, like i said, that keeps people involved with it. Since the majority don't feel that way, and they simply do what they do so they can have the bigger E-Peen, with less the effort. Regardless, I agree with you. In fact, I think the arena system was a great introduction to more so the division of those who clutch for welfare epics, and those who do it to have a good time. Example? Point buyers. Point sellers. The point buyers bought points so they could be baby fed things with the least amount of effort. Point sellers are high up in the first place, and got into the position because they enjoyed it. However I never bought/sold points, or ever would feel to do something like that, it just shows the fact that you enjoy what you do. It would just be fun if there was some type of trigger to get everybody involved, so everybody has a good time. 100 vs 100 WPVP would just be amazingly fun, compared to a 5v5 you may or may not get if there isn't a reason to get a large group of people to have fun, depending on how successful their introduction of this works. Feanore 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 The last 3 points kinda underscore something else that sets FP apart (not this guild exclusively, but ya know) from the vast majority; Most of us *like* playing with each other. I think that was one of the reasons feral+arenas kinda bummed me out: I'm used to playing to win and if it's a group activity I'm used to doing it with friends. On the other had, particularly with 5s, I can completely understand not being able to since those friends also like to win. But frankly, with my busy schedule IRL and still being able to dish out the hurt in BGs/World PvP using gear that's half a season behind, I don't really let that bother me much. Sauceboss 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I love PvP, and I admit that when I came into FP I was a mega care bear. It wasn't untill I got "accepted" into the pvp crowd by holding on own in the rolls that were Ecthelion lead groups that I realized how incredible PvP really was. When I kill a boss it's cool, I get loot, I move on to the next one, when you get that first kill on a boss, I admit, there's ABSOLUTELY nothing in the game like it. The first boss I got to see go down was Tidewalker, it was an amazing FP first to be a part of, we were all so excited, and I had never had such a jazzed feeling in my life, but after that it was just another boss, nothing feels good after the first kill, it's cool to say that we can get it, but beyond that it's just a boss I've seen before. PvP I never get that feeling, even if we just ROLL people in WSG for like 3 hours, the fact that I'm there with Ecth, Memphis, Ghosty, Trigz back in the day, Ez now, just to name a few, it feels so good. When we take a loss it puts us in our game face, it's not like wiping on a boss, it's like our reputation just dropped. We all get serious business, and the next game it's no holds bared, everyone is on top of their game, everyone is gunning for blood, and those are the best games. Nothing in the world makes me as happy as Smashing my head into the keyboard after a comeback victory by FP, seeing Ecths skullcrusher macro and the /FPFTMFW that follows them. I've tired to quit this game many times, and when I was working, I pretty much did quit, but I always had that itch for pvp, and the fact that I get to PvP with such amazing people in FP? Something I'll never forget. I'm MORE then excited for WotLK, I'll be going DK, but there's a chance that I may be playing horde. We'll have to see how it paves out, but I will always be here, if nothing else to PvP with FP, Team Sauce, and of course Murder Squad. /end my ramble
