its the latency fixer-upper thing that was mentioned the other day

the original link had a keylogger on it, but you might be able to get it from mmo-champion

as of 2.3.2, wow is supposed to be sending smaller packets to reduce latency in game.

im sure it probably helps, but i cant even think about having my account stolen again :avoids:

No no Elune. The link on the Immo page is fine. It had a link on curse.com previously, but was taken down for apparent "keylogging." But turned out not to be.

B. I have a bigfoot NIC, so probably doesn't help me.

I can't believe there are people who actually got suckered into buying those NICs...

Thank PC Gamer for giving it a high rating...

The network stack (as in software) has always been the primary issue, but most people just don't get that.

The one thing I don't like about this registry fix is the fact that it changes ACKs globally, which, as has been pointed out, can make other software perform in a less than optimal fashion.

For myself, I have 2 reg files I made; 1 to add the TCP flags and one to remove them.

Feanore: is it specific to each PC? If not, can you hook it up!?

Consider yourself hooked up 8)

...But it is semi-specific to your PC. Just edit the area labeled 'YOUR NET INTERFACE ID# HERE' below with your own NIC ID...Warning there are often several, so you'll need to look for the one that has your *internet* connection in it (common indicators will be it has a gateway address, DNS addresses, etc...):

1st one adds the appropriate ACK for WoW:

ack.reg:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{YOUR NET INTERFACE ID# HERE}]

"TcpAckFrequency"=dword:1

2nd one clears said flag to the default empty value:

ack-.reg:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{YOUR NET INTERFACE ID# HERE}]

"TcpAckFrequency"=-

EDIT: Be warned that this CAN (and in my case *does* effect speeds of downloads, etc...), so you will want to remove it when you aren't playing WoW.

I often forget to activate/deactivate it and then wonder why my d/ls are slow or, conversely, my latency in game is high :oops:
