So I need to buy a car, as mine is just nickel and diming me. I just went around to look at some things and here are some options:

06 Corolla, 32k miles for 14190 (includes trade in), probably about 7.5% APR for 60 months.

07 Saturn Ion, new, 16k minus trade in, 0 APR for 60-72 months.

And I lost the damn business card to the other place! I think it was an 06 Accord, 13999, 7.5% APR for 60. 04 Acoord, $15k (14 w/ trade in) w/ 54k miles.

The Accord or Corolla will last longer, but any of the options would work.

The saturn being new will mean it'll have a warranty, so you wont have to worry about that for a few years.

I'd get the Accord.

For reliability, I would suggest the Honda or Toyota. Dunno what kind of warranty you would get on the Saturn though... 16k for an Ion seems a bit much. There are a lot of older cars you can get in that price range, heck you could be driving a decent bimmer for that but it depends on how much you want to risk on maintenance and whatnot. My buddy bought a 93-ish corvette in pristine condition for about 15k, so finding something a little older and a lot nicer doesn't seem like too much of a stretch.

Something like this maybe?

I'm drawn to the ion because of a few things - one, a new car warranty. two, 0% financing will save me almost 3,000 over five years. three, in five years, i'll hopefully have a salaried higher paying job. four, it's new!

here's the link:

except it's a four speed automatic

I've had a 0.9% APR before, and it was amazing how fast the balance went down. I'd recommend the Ion just for that.

I don't trust Toyota, based on some people I know having a lot of problems, but that was a Camry...so..../shrug.

If not the Ion...do the accord. Honda ftw.

OMG!!!!!! A car thread!!!!!!!! hehe. . .

Well, as Master Montgomery and Lady Enigami know, I am the wrong person ask about cars--simply because I believe in one automobile company and one company only:

HONDA

A 2006 Accord for $13,000? That's an amazing price, but for so low, it makes me wonder what trim level it is? Do you know if it is an DX (also redubbed VP), LX, EX, EX-L, LX V-6, or EX V-6? The DX is the base model, which will have virtually no extras. The LX has basic amenities, such as power door locks, windows and mirrors, cruise and a/c. EX V-6 is top of the line with dual zone automatic climate control, leather, heated seats, steering wheel mounted cruise and audio controls, 6 disc in-dash CD changer, power front seats (driver 8 way, front pass. 4 way), allow rims, power moon-roof with tilt feature, leather wrapped steering wheel, and of course a 244 hp V-6 engine with grade logic control. :)

Realiability will be with the Honda, of course. Hondas are known for dependability and resale value. Toyotas are good, save the Camry--as Darcy mentioned. The Camry has really fallen down in that category mainly due to transmission problems, I believe it was. They are no longer as good as they were. The Saturn is an American made (P.O.S.) car. Saturn is part of GM (General Motors) so it will have the quality of a Chevy with the same dependability (or lack of).

The Toyota you mentioned was a Corolla, which aren't bad, though they are/were the same thing as a Chevy Prism. :-P Both were built in the same plant and just branched off to have either Chevy emblems or Toyota emblems. Of course the Prism is no longer made, but Corolla is. Corollas are still dependable, though they haven't had any major updates in ages--one of the things that makes them a little on the lame side.

If you have an questions about Hondas, I'm your man. :) An other great Honda, is of course, the Civic. They run forever, are a little smaller, but get better gas mileage and super cute and fun to drive. :) Of my 11 cars, 7 have been Hondas and I love them. I have had 3 Civics, 3 Accords and 1 Passport/Rodeo. <----(Shut up, Matt!) :-P

07 Saturn Ion, new, 16k minus trade in, 0 APR for 60-72 months.

0% is hard to argue with, no matter how you slice it. I know little about cars, but I do know about Money, and any time you can land this deal (and still make your monthly payment) it's hard to turn away.

This is typically only available through dealer financing, so the profit of the car is pure revenue, so it's easier for them to offer this incentive. Plus, you typically get more car for your money with these deals. Thing is though, you won't find it on a used one - so the cars are typically more money. I wouldn't go any longer than 60 months though. No matter what car you pick, longer than that and you run the risk of being upside down too fast to unload it if you need to.

You can't really go wrong with Honda-Acura. I absolutely love my Acura RSX.

The Saturns have 0% APR for a reason. When I was look to get a new car a few months ago I talked to a guy about Saturns and he said they are as trouble some as a Mercury Cougar (which is bad).

Two cars back I had a 87 Corolla and even with 280k+ miles you could always depend on it to get from A to B and back.

Granted all of these are a select few reviews it still gives you a general idea.

EDIT: And I'll plug them again since I've had such a great experience with them. Carmax > Any dealership I've been too. They offer financing and also will go out and get the next best 4 offers from other companies for financing. CapitalOne Auto got me a better deal then the Carmax auto finance. Their extended warranty programs are great too. They fixed things I didn't realized were covered and I didn't ask them to fix.

This is what's getting me. 0% = about $2800. Even with my good credit, any 15k car i buy is going to end up being 18k.

as much as i disliked them in the past ive only heard good things about the saturns. my stepbrother bought one and that means a lot ( did tons of research and testdriving), besides that, he a cheap bastard, and overall found it to be more bang for his buck.

toyotas and hondas are basically the same, which is very reliable and good with mileage and stuff.

Uhhhh, Toyota and Honda are NOT basically the same. The Accords have NEVER had problems like the Camrys have been having. Toyota has gone downhill a lot lately because of their problems with their cars, where as Honda has not. They both do have good mileage vehicles, but I would NEVER say that Honda and Toyota are the same. That is a gross insult to Honda.

Oh, and price is around what it should be for that year. Do you know what features or trim level the Accord is? If it was a V-6 or 4 cylinder?

Here is the MSN autos page for the 2004 Accord. It also has reviews by people who actually own them, saying the pros and cons. The overall user review is 9.2 out of 10. :) So that tells you that people really love them. :) My Accord is a 2003--which will look identical to the 2004. I love it, too, of course. :)

MSN Autos 2004 Honda Accord

** though, just so you know. some of the reviews--usually the bad ones, are by people who just want to bring down the rating They don't even own Hondas, but put in false reviews because they have nothing better to do with their pathetic lives. :-P

You can't go wrong with the Corolla, it is the best selling car of all time. I used to have a 1990 Corolla and I loved that car, 5-speed manual, crank windows, manual locks and a sunroof. I loved the shit out of that car...until a crane crushed it. Then I got my Saturn. It was relatively cheap and it's been very, very reliable. My wife drives our '02.5 1.8t Jetta.

James you sure you can't get that 0% deal on a new toyota or honda too? If not, I'm sure you can at least find one that's lower than those rates on the used cars.

$16k seems too much for an Ion. Plus the reliability is questionable from what I've heard. The car is basically just a Chevy Cavalier with a different body/interior. Consider the money you save on the 0% APR spent on future repairs.

I may get a new car soon, and the only two I'm looking at are a Scion Tc and a Civic. Both are about $17k new.

Also look around for Certified Pre-Owned cars. They come with warranties that are as good, or sometimes better, than a new car. My current Civic was Certified and had a powertrain warranty up to 100k miles. It didn't come with that new! Of course it developed a slight transmission problem at 101k, but that's just how life works for me >.

If my wife would get a damn job then I could trade in my Saturn for a 4-door GTI w/ DSG.

For the best gas mileage around (not to mention over-all sexiness), you should seriously consider this guy, Soma:
