rounder 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 now would be a good time for Canada to start trading with overseas nations instead of focusing solely on the US. I don't see the American dollar rising again in the near future so we're all just gonna have to make due with whats happened. I think it's a good oppertuinity fo Canada to be honest. Rounder. Krotas 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 hmmm, maybe. The reason we trade with the states so much is shipping costs are lower than with just about any other country, plus shipped goods go through fewer customs and whatnot. Also a study that was done maybe 3-4 years ago indicated that the US needs US-CA trade significantly more than canada does to keep their respective economies afloat, so we're just being nice, eh. You are right shipping costs are lower because of our close(and convienante) proximity to the US. However with the greenback, loonie exchange now costing the US money and an economy thats extremely weak at the moment how much of our product can they affford to buy/trade with us. Also with the way the US has been governing it self in the past 8 years i think it my be wise for Canada to somewhat distance it self and start to build more trade related relations with other countries. Off topic, anybody see the college student get tasered at the john kerry rally yesterday? Thing that bugged me the most was nobody did anything to help him. stangmeister 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 Im torn about that taser issue. At first I was outraged when I saw the video, but then, watch it again and you'll see he was out of line. He butt in line to ask his questions after question time was over, Kerry said he'd take the question from him anyways, then he started shouting after the mic was cut, asked to leave, asked again, you can see the guards doing that. After he starts causing a rucus they start to lead him out and he is a that point resisting arrest which is a phelony. He was told to stop or he'd be tased, he didn't, and was tased. /shrug. Hvilelos 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 That kid is a grade A attention whore. Lets see, a college kid gets belligerent, resists arrest, flails his arms and screams at the cops, tries to run away, and at one point lunges in the direction of a US senator. What are the cops supposed to do? Besides, they tased him because they couldn't get his other hand into the cuffs. The other option would have been to (probably) break his arm. It happened a lot before the introduction of tasers. As far as whether they had a good reason to detain him in the first place... I haven't decided that yet. Erlin 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2007 "tased" lol my opinion is....get some stronger police put those fat bastards through some training so they can just carry his ass out. they had like 6 dudes and they couldnt muscle him out of the room?? weaklings. Hykos 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2007 (edited) http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8646/140980167832231fd84ckd2.jpg courtesy of http://apelad.blogspot.com I watched the video a couple times and I still can't figure out when exactly he got tasted. Oh sure, I hear him screaming a lot while on the ground, but I can't imagine they're tasing him while they're still holding him down. Wouldn't they be shocked too? Anyway, there's no reason to feel sorry for the douche. Judging by his questions and his reactions in the lobby after he was cuffed (If you didn't see that video from after the tasing he kept yelling that the government was taking him away to kill him like they do with all the others), he's obviously a conspiracy nut. He needs to be locked up for a good long while. Edited September 21, 2007 by Hykos

Esteban 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2007 I hope the idiots at Ottawa don't freak at at the masses crossing the border to go pick up their groceries. rounder 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2007 I don't think i'll be eating an american burito anytime soon. But i can see the US pulling all their call centers out of Canada now, i know where i live there are a tone of them. It will already hurt a hurting Ontario. Thank god the west is doing good or Canada would be in the same boat as the US. As for the kid, he was out of line no doubt about that but see the size of the police compared to him and they couldn't controll him well enough to take him out cuff him. It was a lack of skill on behalf of the police dept and although to the officers it may not seem it because they obviously don't know what their doing, it was excessive force too. His first question was a very valid one though, i thought it was good. Rounder.
Montoya 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2007 It is hard to control someone peacfully when they are resisting. Like HV said, the other option is to break his arm or use a lot of force which can put the person and the officers in danger. This kid did exactly what he wanted to do, get in the news. Plus I heard that the officers were suspended and knowing this country, they will end up getting fired for doing their job. That is the real crime. rounder 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2007 the sheer size and numbers of the officers should have allowed them to controll him long enough to take him to the ground and cuff him then remove him without the use of a taser. Should they lose their jobs for this? Depending on how well the training program is at the office then maybe. The large black officer was more than twice the kids size and should have been able to controll him on his own. There was no need for a taser.
